Donor Engine & Transmission Removal
(Preparing for Cummins 5.9L + Allison AT545 swap)
So after a long internal debate I decided to replace the factory multi-fuel engine and Spicer 3053A manual transmission out of the deuce in favor of something better. I decided on a B series Cummins 5.9L diesel engine. One member on the Steel Soldiers forum has already completed a 5.9L Cummins swap, but he used a manual transmission (NV4500). I want to use an automatic transmission,
so I searched high and low for the perfect donor vehicle. I found a 1997 Freightliner / Thomas Bus that had 46k original miles. What a steal! She has a little bit of corrosion on some parts, but nothing a little sanding, painting and new gaskets won't fix!
